CNY- Ee Chinese Cuisine @ Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur

Updated: Jun 28, 2021

We were extremely honoured be invited to Ee Chinese Cuisine @ Eastin Hotel Kuala Lumpur to try out their Chinese New Year festive set menu. Boy oh boy, were we in for a treat!

Kicking off our 8 course meal was the Prosperous Salmon Yee Sang with Rice Crackers.

Ee Chinese Cuisine carefully selects the suppliers of all their cooking ingredients to ensure only the finest ingredients in all their recipes. This is especially important when preparing a dish like the Yee Sang where all ingredients are served fresh.

The Yee Sang topped with a well balanced plum sauce was both tasty and refreshing. It opened up our appetites for even more good food!

Next up was the Double – Boiled Shark’s Fin Soup with American Ginseng, Top Shell and Fish Maw. While the soup was light (not too oily or viscous), it was bursting with flavours. You know it is a good soup when you don’t have dry lips or a thirst issue after enjoying it.

Third dish on the menu Steamed Giant Grouper with Ginger Sauce. Fresh grouper fish with firm meat that melts away as it hits your mouth, topped with light ginger paste and drenched in light sauce. The art of preparing a dish as such is a true testament of the chef’s culinary skills to ensure that the fish is cooked to perfection and seasoned in ways that does not overpower the natural sweetness of the grouper fish.

Moving on is the steamed village chicken (kampong chicken) with cordyceps flower and wolfberry. A traditional recipe that when prepared, seasoned and garnished well, really enhances the natural sweetness from succulent and juicy steamed chicken. A flavour that is familiar to many of us, and for those who are away from home, this dish will surely bring you warmth.

Braised abalone, mushrooms, dried oysters and sea cucumber with vegetables is next up on the menu; A dish that brings about blessings of assured abundance (鲍鱼, abalone) and fertility (海生,sea cucumber) for the new year ahead. This dish needs no further introduction, rest assure that only the best quality abalones, dried oyster and sea cucumber are used as evidence in its flavors and texture.

Just like that, we’ve reached the final main course of the night - Fragrant claypot rice with waxed meat. This dish was especially special because Ee Chinese Cuisine is a pork free restaurant. As such, the waxed meat used in this dish is not the usual Taiwanese pork sausages but instead replaced with ones made from duck meat.

While we enjoyed the rice that was nice and fluffy, mildly seasoned and not overly oily, the waxed duck meat was a whole different experience for us. It is packed with a strong distinct flavor that would require an acquired taste to truly enjoy.

We’d like to hear your take on this dish once you’ve tried it out too!

We ended the night with two delightful desserts. The double-boiled peach jelly with glutinous rice dumplings and Osmanthus and deep-fried “Nian Gao” with Yam.

If you too would like to enjoy a scrumptious feast this Chinese New Year with friends and family, be sure to check out Ee Chinese Cuisine festive set menus that are available till February 8, 2020 starting from RM888 nett for a table of four, RM1,688 for a table of six to RM2,288 for a table of 10.
